Summer Storms – Beware of Unethical Individuals
Be aware as summer approaches, that so do those that come knocking on your door with promises of helping you with your roof due to storm damage or claiming to be doing work in your neighborhood. They have been known to cause damage to your roof and then claim it was storm related. Insurance companies have started noticing this practice and can deny claims.
Don’t allow someone that knocks on your door in, on or around your home.
We have video of a Construction Storm Chaser on our neighbors roof CAUSING damage where there was none to be found. Insurance companies are well aware of this unethical practice and you may be at risk of paying out of pocket for what is essentially vandalism and it is definitely fraudulent. If you let them into your home to talk, they will most likely not leave until they have pressured you into signing something. If you do let them inspect your home, be vigilant! Take video of them “inspecting” your roof, or any part of your home. Even if you don’t know what to look for, they will be far less likely to cause damage if there is a chance it is on camera.
Also, you can look for signs of damage yourself – shingles on the ground, missing or loose shingles on the roof, or branches on the roof. Most local independent, professional roofing companies do not canvas neighborhoods after a storm. The storm chasers are using weather alert software programs and targeting areas where storms have been. Most roofs can withstand the normal summer storm season with no damage.
Remember before hiring a contractor for your home’s roof or other improvements, check to be sure they are licensed, insured and read their online reviews of services provided. There are many professional, outstanding contractors out there!
