History

Dan Cox had previously worked for many roofing contractors and saw the need for honest and reputable contractors. He saw that contractors were interested only in the bottom line, not customer satisfaction. Dan wanted to start a company that put the customer’s needs first. He wanted to gain the trust and confidences of the customer and in return give the customer the best job for a reasonable price.

From the ground up

In 1984, Dan Cox started On Top Roofing. He was the company when it started. He placed the advertising, ran the estimates, installed the roofs, drove the dump trucks, completed the office work, and collected the checks! In 1991 the business was incorporated as On Top Home Improvement, Inc. On Top and one year later, Kim Cox (Dan’s wife) joined him in his business and took over the “inside” work of the administrative end of the business. At that time, On Top started hiring subcontractors so Dan could further concentrate on customer service. In 2006 On Top hired its first outside sales person, Bill Alley.

Soon after Dan started On Top he decided that one way to gain the confidence of the customer was to provide them with a comprehensive free estimate that included all the information necessary for a customer to make an informed decision on selecting a contractor.

Contractor’s often have a negative reputation, so On Top began to never collect any money from a customer until the customer was completely satisfied with the job. For many years, On Top never asked for a deposit on any job that we contracted. (Due to increases in shingles prices, we have recently had to ask for 1/3 deposits on jobs over $6,000. We still only ask for the final payment when a customer is completely satisfied with our job.)

On Top has been working with the same subcontractor crews for many years, all of them U.S. citizens or here legally. One of our roofing crews has been with us for over 14 years and the other for over 8 years. Our siding crew has been with us for over 3 years and our window crew for over 7 years.

On Top has had 23 years of success, relitability, and exceptional service. As our history grows, that’s one thing that will never change.
